Released on March 20th 2020, Doom Eternal is one of the stronger Bethesda releases in recent memory. With a more story-focused experience, the newest game from id Software still brings the heat in demon slaying action, but this time around, we can also experience the origins of the mysterious Doom Slayer. Since its release, the developers have consistently remained active with the community by providing information on upcoming content.
This new update, dubbed “Update 2” by the developers introduces some great additions, bug fixes and overall game improvements.
BATTLEMODE Map: Torment
The Torment map has some great design choices. Players will definitely enjoy traversing its terrain as the Doom Slayer, or even playing as a Demon character. Depending on who you play as, you might need to develop the appropriate strategy to know the right places in the map to catch your opponent off guard. Developing your unique strategies for a new map is one of the best parts of multiplayer map releases.
Lore-wise, Torment is an abandoned UAC outpost, so you’ll see a lot of references to the Doom Slayer’s past life.
In addition to the brand new Torment map, BATTLEMODE also received some touches. Most notably, there is finally a feature to setup unique keybinds for each demon, the network servers have also been tweaked and improved to address the latency issues. Lastly, the Boosters menu has been updated for a better user experience.
New Events
The CASTLE GRAYSCALE mini-event is currently live. It features some new skins and cosmetics for Demons based on a retro theme. There is a new Black & White Pain Elemental skin alongside the Mancubus “Old Timey Evil” skin. Additionally, a GIBBO Collectibles mascot icon is there to show off to your friends in multiplayer.
Another event that’s coming soon is “HACK TO THE FUTURE II”. This event will feature a literal blast from the past with a new Retro Revenant Master Collection. The Revenant Master now comes with his retro textures, with the addition of an ultimate display for his 2D sprite on an IDKFA podium. Now you can flaunt your love for the classic Doom games in multiplayer lobbies. Seeing these new cosmetics in Ultra settings are extremely eye-watering.
General Improvements
Demons have been upgraded to be more empowered than ever in Campaign Mode for a bigger challenge. Now that they are tougher, your slapstick glory kills will feel even more satisfying to execute. Plus, the enhanced demons will drop some additional ammo and armor after they are slain. If you don’t want to deal with Empowered Demons, you can toggle this feature ON/OFF in the Main Menu.
Photo Mode has also been improved to give the Slayer better lighting while you’re crafting the perfect cinematic shots. Finally, you won’t have to deal with crappy shots of the Slayer lurking in the shadows.
Verdict/Conclusion
Other overall customization improvements have made the Quality of Life much better for fans of Doom Eternal. This is pretty great, and we hope the quality of this game sets a new precedent for the games published by Bethesda in the future.
